ZYN nicotine pouches are sold by strength, measured in milligrams of nicotine per pouch. Knowing what that number means — and how it compares to what you're used to — is the difference between a pouch that satisfies and one that makes you feel ill.
How much nicotine is in a ZYN pouch?
The ZYN range we stock in South Africa runs from 1.5mg to 13.5mg of nicotine per pouch:
- 1.5mg — the lightest. Barely-there nicotine, mostly flavour.
- 3mg — a mild, everyday strength.
- 6mg — the most popular middle ground.
- 11mg — strong. A clear step up in both hit and duration.
- 13.5mg — the strongest ZYN in our range.
The figure on the can is nicotine contained in the pouch, not the amount your body absorbs. Actual absorption depends on how long you keep the pouch in, your saliva production and your own tolerance — so two people using the same 6mg pouch will not get the same experience.
Mini and Slim pouches
ZYN sells two pouch sizes and the strengths map onto them. Mini pouches carry 1.5mg, 3mg and 6mg. Slim pouches are slightly larger and carry 11mg and 13.5mg. A Slim pouch is more noticeable under the lip, which is part of why the higher strengths use it.
Which strength should you choose?
The honest answer is: lower than you think, at first.
- New to nicotine pouches entirely? Start at 3mg. You can always move up; moving down after an unpleasant experience is harder.
- Switching from cigarettes? 3mg or 6mg is where most people land.
- Already using pouches from another brand? 11mg is usually the closest match to a standard "strong" pouch.
- Deliberately chasing the strongest? 13.5mg, but note it only comes in two flavours.
Too much nicotine at once causes nausea, dizziness, hiccups and a racing heart. If that happens, take the pouch out — the effects pass.
